{"id":10717,"date":"2025-01-16T02:21:45","date_gmt":"2025-01-16T02:21:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoopia.com\/economy\/10717.html"},"modified":"2025-01-16T02:21:45","modified_gmt":"2025-01-16T02:21:45","slug":"canadian-home-sales-fall-in-december-up-10-in-fourth-quarter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoopia.com\/economy\/10717.html","title":{"rendered":"Canadian home sales fall in December; up 10% in fourth quarter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Fergal Smith<\/p>\n<p>TORONTO (Reuters) &#8211; Canadian home sales took a breather in December but were still 10% higher in the fourth quarter compared to the third quarter as the Bank of Canada cut borrowing costs, data from the Canadian <span class=\"aqPopupWrapper js-hover-me-wrapper\">Real Estate<\/span> Association (CREA) showed on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The fourth quarter increase stood among the stronger quarters for activity in the last 20 years outside of the pandemic, CREA said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe number of homes sold across Canada declined in December compared to a stronger October and November, although that was likely more of a supply story than a demand story,\u201d Shaun Cathcart, CREA\u2019s senior economist, said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur forecast continues to be for a significant unleashing of demand in the spring of 2025, with the expected bottom for interest rates coinciding with sellers listing properties for sale in big numbers once the snow melts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Bank of Canada has cut interest rates by 1.75 percentage points since June to 3.25% to support the economy.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i-invdn-com.investing.com\/trkd-images\/LYNXMPEL0E0QL_L.jpg\" title=\"\u00a9 Reuters.
